As the year draws to an end.....

Where has the year gone you may all ask? We can't fathom it is almost Christmas & the New Year is just around the corner. It certainly has been a challenging & rewarding year for us here at Picket Fence Imports. With the world economy in free fall people seem to love the look of re-use,re-cycle or dare I say the new catchphrase "Upcycling"! Nothing seems quite the same as a piece of Vintage Glass or a well worn treasure from years gone by. We will be posting soon on a wonderful range of new stock arriving early in New Year!

The big 3 0

So I turned 30 last month. To be honest I was excited to turn 30...after all isn't that suppose to be when life starts (or is that 40?). Anyhow, to celebrate the occassion I had an afternoon tea (vintage theme of course!) with my family and friends. It was such a special afternoon and made me realise how very blessed I am to have such special people in my life. One of the highlights was my birthday cake, made and created by my sister in law Carey. As you can see from the picture it was truly beautiful and I can only imagine how long it took her to make! Again Picket Fence Imports products went so well with my theme and definitely added that something special. Enjoy! Bec x

Blast off!

My precious little man had his 4th birthday at the beginning of July. It was a special birthday this year as he was able to celebrate it with his new baby sister. We decided that since he had made the tranistion to "big brother" so well he could have an extra special birthday party. The space theme was chosen and I busily set about creating the perfect space mission for my little astronaut. I am very lucky to have amazing parents, who just so happen to sell some very beautiful products that I could use for this space adventure! So here is a snippet of how these gorgeous miniature milk bottles were used. Bec x

Island Dreaming.....

If you are wondering where we have been over the last couple of weeks the answer is ......Fiji! This photo was taken on a day trip to an island called Vatelele which is 50 km from the mainland of Viti Levu. It is one of the worlds hidden gems with just 4 Villages & 1 Resort which caters for the worlds elite. The water is just something that has to be seen to be believed!

I guess this has to be one of the most beautiful seasons of the year, our golden colours of Autumn. This photo is taken in Oberon NSW a place very near & dear to me as it is where my family are from. Located in Central West of NSW Oberon has 4 distinct seasons & Autumn really shows it in true form!

Let there be light.....

How great do our Mason Jars look as a hanging light Pendant? These were featured on The Block last night, made by Sophie & Dale, our Bobbins were also featured on the old fireplace mantle. The Judges had a positive comment of.........WOW!! Must say that is one very clever idea!

Lest We Forget - ANZAC Day 2012

This has to be one of my all time favourite photo's taken of my father in Casino Nth. NSW in 1940. He was aged 19 & saying goodbye to his family & getting ready for deployment to the Middle East. He spent 866 days fighting for Australia including the Syria, Cyprus & New Guinea before returning home safe but very Battle weary.....

Oooookay, so who remembers the days pre-television when lots of fun was had outdoors at family picnics or the Bowling Alley? I have fond memories of playing Quoits after lunch & must say I love the old Crib board handed down to my husband from his Grand Father.......aaah, the good old days!

I have to say that I have a special spot for Religious Memorabilia. This little Commemorative Gospel Book was given to my husband just after he was born. The Rosary Beads are all handmade in fresh Rose Petals & have come straight from the Vatican. They sure do smell divine & are real little treasures!

Lou Lou Skip To My Lou.....

Well, for any of you out there with loads of energy we have the right thing for you! These original Saltaire Bobbin Skipping Ropes should do the trick! They look great don't you think? What a clever idea!

Saltaire is an early planned settlement near Bradford in Yorkshire England. It was created in 1853 by Sir Titus Salt a manufacturer of Alpaca Wool fabrics. The community named it after it's founder (Salt) and the nearby river (Aire) was built beside large Woollen Mills on the banks of the Leeds River.
